Complainant Name:
Ms Christina McKelvie

Clauses Noted: 1, 2

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

Ms Christina McKelvie MSP complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) and Clause 2 (Opportunity to reply) of the Editors' Code of Practice. She said that the newspaper had inaccurately interpreted comments she had made about social media abuse in her local newspaper.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction:

"On June 27 we reported that Christina McKelvie MSP had said there were ‘interesting conspiracy theorists' who thought secret service plants were responsible for online abuse against the author JK Rowling. Ms Kelvie has asked us to point out that she does not personally endorse that view."
