Complainant Name:
Ms Christina McKelvie

Clauses Noted: 1, 2

Publication: Scottish Daily Mail

Complaint:

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

Ms Christina McKelvie MSP complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) and Clause 2 (Opportunity to reply) of the Editors' Code of Practice. She said that the newspaper had inaccurately interpreted comments she had made about social media abuse in her local newspaper.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction:

"In an article on June 27, we suggested that Christina McKelvie MSP suspected MI5 was behind cyber attacks on the author JK Rowling.

We now accept that Miss McKelvie said that ‘conspiracy theorists' suspected MI5's involvement and that this is not her personal view."
