Complainant Name:
Ms Christina McKelvie

Clauses Noted: 1, 2

Publication: The Independent

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

Ms Christina McKelvie MSP complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) and Clause 2 (Opportunity to reply) of the Editors' Code of Practice. She said that the newspaper had inaccurately interpreted comments she had made about social media abuse in her local newspaper.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated amendments to the online article, including the addition of the complainant's rebuttal of the newspaper's interpretation of her comments. A footnote was also added to make clear that the changes had been made.
