Complainant Name:
Miss Bethan Jones

Clauses Noted: 5

Publication: Evening Standard

Complaint:

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

Miss Bethan Jones complained to the Press Complaints Commission that a report of a suicide, published by the newspaper, had contained excessive detail about the method used, in breach of Clause 5 (ii) (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved after the PCC negotiated amendments to the online article and the addition of contact details for the Samaritans.
