Complainant Name:
Mrs Jennifer Leahy

Clauses Noted: 5

Publication: The Times

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

Mrs Jennifer Leahy complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published excessive detail of a method of suicide, in breach of Clause 5 (ii) (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The complaint was resolved following amendments to the online article and assurances from the newspaper about the steps it had taken to address this issue with relevant staff members.
