Complainant Name:
Mr James Vickers

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Scotsman

Complaint:

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

Mr James Vickers complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice, in stating that the Centre for Drugs Misuse Research was part of Glasgow University.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following corrections in print and online:

In an article published by the Scotsman under the headline "Paolo Nuitini blasted after cannabis confession", we quoted Professor Neil McKeganey saying he was of the Centre for Drugs Misuse Research at Glasgow University. We have been asked to point out that the Centre for Drugs Misuse Research is no longer at Glasgow University but is an independent research group. We are happy to make the correction and apologise for the error.
