Complainant Name:
Mr Daniel Etheridge

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mirror

Mr Daniel Etheridge complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published inaccurate information in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainant, who appeared on "Bear Grylls: The Island", said that the newspaper had incorrectly claimed that he had been "involved in previous ‘fake' controversy on another of [Bear Grylls'] shows". He had not been involved in any such controversy and had not previously worked on any of Bear Grylls' shows.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following apology:

In our article of 16 May, "Bear Grylls The Island Contestant was involved in previous 'fake' controversy on another of hosts shows", we incorrectly stated that Daniel Etheridge worked with Mr Grylls on a show in which a man in a grizzly bear costume pretended to be a real bear. In fact Mr Etheridge did not work on this show and did not work on any Bear Grylls shows until later. We apologize for this error.
