Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Reveal

Ms Christine Bleakley and Mr Frank Lampard complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the magazine had published inaccurate information in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The complainants said that the magazine had incorrectly claimed that Ms Bleakley was the "whole reason" for Mr Lampard's prospective move to New York and that she had been looking for work in the US. They said that this was entirely fabricated, and Ms Bleakley was committed to a career in the UK.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following apology in the magazine:

In our 10 June edition we published an article about Christine Bleakley and Frank Lampard entitled "Christine and Frank's fresh start in the Big Apple", in which we reported that Christine had "begged and pleaded" with Frank to move his career to a New York club so that Christine could launch a career there and that she was "the whole reason" for Frank's move. We also reported that Christine had been "quietly distributing her CV to talent agencies in Manhattan in the hope of landing a huge TV deal". Christine's representative have since told Reveal that she had played no part in Frank's career decisions after his announcement that he was going to leave Chelsea. She has not been distributing her CV to Manhattan agencies. She has not been trying to land a TV deal in the U;, she remains committed to pursuing a career in the UK, and has no plans to relocate abroad. We apologise to Christine and Frank for the inaccuracies our article and any upset caused.
