Complainant Name:
Mr Christopher Copper

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Welwyn & Hatfield Times

Mr Christopher Copper complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. He said that the newspaper had printed a death notice for his father which had spelled his father's surname incorrectly.

The newspaper had published a follow-up notice prior to the complainant contacting the PCC, and the complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated private letters of apology to the complainant and three other family members, for a bouquet of flowers to be sent to the complainant's mother, and for a donation of £100 to be made to the British Heart Foundation, in memory of the complainant's father.
