Complainant Name:
Mr Adam Richardson

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Northern Echo

Mr Adam Richardson complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which he considered to have been inaccurate and misleading in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors Code of Practice. The complainant said it was not the case that he had "failed to meet hire purchase repayments"; in fact, he denied "breaching insolvency regulations by selling items obtained on credit prior to being declared bankrupt".

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following apology:

We recently reported that Adam Stuart Richardson denied breaching five counts of the Insolvency Act by selling 10,000 worth of electrical goods obtained by hire purchase. In fact, the goods were obtained on credit, and following a complaint to the PCC Mr Richardson has asked us to make clear that the figure of 10,000 includes accumulated interest. We apologise for the errors and are happy to put the record straight.
