Complainant Name:
The complainant

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Independent

Complaint:

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

The complainant said that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice in an article about the kidnapping of Sri Lankan people by forces seemingly acting in conjunction with the Sri Lankan government. He said that the article had referred to an interview with his brother, which could not have taken place as his brother had gone missing two years prior to publication of the article, and his whereabouts remained unknown.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated for a letter to be sent by the newspaper to the complainant.
