Complainant Name:
Miss Sarah Grimshaw

Clauses Noted: 1, 2, 3

Publication: The Sun

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

Miss Sarah Grimshaw complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy), Clause 2 (Opportunity to reply) and Clause 3 (Privacy) of the Editors' Code of Practice, in reporting claims from her ex-partner that she had faked a pregnancy for financial gain.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper removed the online article and published the following clarification in print:

In an article headlined "Scam ex's fake expectations", published on August 15, we reported allegations that Miss Sarah Grimshaw had faked a pregnancy in order to encourage her ex-partner to make financial payments to her. We are happy to clarify that Miss Grimshaw has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing".
