Complainant Name:
Mr David Amess MP

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sun

Complaint:

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

Mr David Amess MP complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published inaccurate information in an article about a pamphlet he had written about working class Conservative MPs, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved on the basis of the publication of the following correction:

An article on 29th June, 2014, said the Prime Minister hoped to launch a campaign involving Working Class Conservative MPs. In fact Mr Cameron was not involved in the initiative by David Amess MP and the Renewal Group. We regret this error. Mr Amess states it was not the case that only 14 MPs could be identified for a pamphlet and there will be a further issue with more who could not be included in the first. Conservative Party officials are not involved with recruiting these contributors.
