Complainant Name:
Miss Zoe Lee

Clauses Noted: 1, 12

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

This complaint was originally made to the PCC. As the PCC closed on 8 September the complaint was resolved by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) under PCC procedures. IPSO is the new independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry.

Miss Zoe Lee complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) and Clause 12 (Discrimination) in an article reporting that a man who had had concerns about a proposed local Traveller site had killed his wife and himself.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following correction in print:

Following an article on August 14 about the suicide of a retired managing director who was concerned about his wife's failing health and a proposed traveller site in an adjacent field we are happy to clarify that the planning application was for part of the field rather than all of it as depicted.
