Complainant Name: Clauses Noted: 1, 5 Publication: Daily Mirror Complaint: Mrs Amanda Hall complained that an article had inaccurately reported that her mother, Rosemary Pagett, had been raped in her home, and had died in hospital ten days later. In fact, her mother had been sexually assaulted. The complainant explained that this article had added to her distress at an extremely difficult time. Resolution: The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following apology in its ‘For the Record’ column: Rosemary Pagett
On 20 July relying on
information from a news agency, the Daily Mirror incorrectly reported that
Rosemary Pagett, 75, had died in hospital 10 days after being raped in her
home. We now understand that, although Ms Pagett had been sexually assaulted,
she had not been raped. We offer our sincere apologies to Ms Pagett’s family
for any distress caused.
