Complainant Name: Clauses Noted: 1 Publication: The Sun Complaint: Dr S Newton complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code in publishing an article that inaccurately suggested that the type of chlamydia that infects koalas can be transferred to humans; and that transmission can happen through urine. Resolution: The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following correction in its dedicated corrections and clarifications column and ran a similar wording online: In a story published on April 21, 2012, we told how One Direction had been warned of catching chlamydia after cuddling koalas at a zoo. We have been asked to make clear that the particular strain of chlamydia which can be passed from koalas to other species is airborne and not sexually transmitted.Date Published: 02/08/2012 << Go Back |
