The family of Rosie Whitaker complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article in breach of Clauses 1 (Accuracy), 3 (Privacy), and 5 (Intrusion into grief and shock) of the Editors' Code of Practice. They considered that the article, which reported the tragic death of Rosie Whitaker, was insensitive, intruded into her privacy and the grief of her family, and included inaccurate information about a statement issued by the family.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated: the amendment of the online article; the publication of the following footnote:

This article has been amended to make clear that the statement came from Rosie's family, not just her parents, and to remove photographs of Rosie and comments from her blog following representation from her family

and a donation to the Rosie Whitaker Memorial Fund.
