Complainant Name: Clauses Noted: 1 Publication: The Mail on Sunday Complaint: Steven Wilkinson complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had misrepresented comments he had made to its reporter regarding the circumstances under which he had been granted a papal knighthood, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. Resolution: The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of the article from the newspaper's website and the publication of the following apology: On April 3, 2011, in an article headlined ‘Now leading Blair fundraiser is suspected of fixing papal honours' we said the businessman Steven Wilkinson had been awarded a papal knighthood after making donations to charity projects in the Balkans. Mr Wilkinson stated that he was committed to the projects before the question of any honour arose. We apologise to Mr Wilkinson, Anthony Bailey and the other donors for not reporting this.Date Published: 05/10/2012 << Go Back |
