Clem Challis complained to the Press Complaint Commission that the newspaper had inaccurately reported that he was dead and his grandson was terminally ill in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practice. The false information was given by the complainant's son as mitigation in court.

The newspaper, although denying there was any breach of the Code, because the evidence given was accurately reported, resolved the complaint amicably on the basis of an interview with the complainant and the publication of a follow-up article to set the record straight for its readers.
