Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: East Anglian Daily Times

Complaint:

Mr Mark Pearman, the Chief Executive of AFC Sudbury, complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article which he considered misleadingly gave the impression that AFC Sudbury were in a poor financial position. In particular, Mr Pearman was concerned about the use of the phrase ‘cash-strapped' in the original headline, although this headline had subsequently been removed.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved following the negotiation by the PCC of the following clarification and apology, which was published in print and on the publications website:

Following our story, published on September 29, about the release of four players and assistant manager Barry Larkin by AFC Sudbury, we would like to make it clear that the club is not ‘cash-strapped', and has made clear that it is in a robust financial position. We are happy to do so, and apologise to the club for any concerns our story may have caused.
